Race Course Sections

pre-race

part 1: biking

part 2: canoeing

part 3: orienteering

To cap off the summer, Dwayne and Ellen Potts and myself decided to take up the challenge of an adventure race. Adventure racing combines trail running, biking, canoeing, orienteering, and other events in a day long race. It was our first adventure race and we made many rookie mistakes. But it was a fun day and we look forward to our next one where we will have a better idea of what to expect.

We did the long course which had approximately 15 miles of hiking/running, 35 miles of mountain biking on asphalt, gravel, and trails, and 7 miles of canoeing with a portage. The teams are required to use maps and navigate throughout the entire course. Race officials control the course by requiring teams to hit control points and get their "passport" punched.

The race course was broken into three main sections with smaller challenges in each major section. The three sections were biking, canoeing, and orienteering.

Here is our adventure!
