brian asked justin and i if we wanted to head over to bainbridge island to see if we could catch some crabs and dig up some geoducks. such a venture requires some creative outfits.
brian and i digging for the great clam. you have to go out at a low tide to find the exposed ducks. they are about 2 to 3 feet below the surface and it requires a lot of digging in soupy, sandy muck to get them out.
jo and josh digging away.
for all of you who don't live in the northwest, here is what a geoduck looks like. we got ourselves a bucket full.
we didn't have much luck with the crabs as we only got two keeprs but came up with an impressive collection of clams. we finished around 4am in the morning. the look on my face indicates i am thinking about the next step which is eating them.
the first step is to boil the geoduck for 10 to 15 seconds so the skin on their neck is easier to peel off.
brian cleaning the a geoduck.
only the neck, the tail, and the muscle that holds the clam closed is edible. the guts get thrown out.
